The band is having a brick dedicated to it in Liverpool's Cavern Club Wall of Fame - but they've lost touch over the years. The Sceptres - earlier known as Egg & The Scramblers in 1962, and a Visiter newspaper article about their first ever Cavern Club performance.
A Southport musician is in a desperate bid to reunite his 1960s band - as they're about to have a brick in the Cavern's wall dedicated to them. Trevor Wall has asked www.visiter.co.uk for help in tracking down members of this popular beat group.
The group, who played at the Cavern in the sixties, were featured in the Visiter at that time. The article reads: "The Sceptres are already one of the most popular groups in the Leyland district. "Recently, they made their first appearance at the famous Cavern Club in Liverpool, one of the few groups ever selected to play there without doing an audition first. Such was the enthusiastic response that they were immediately given a number of return bookings. Trevor, who no longer lives in Southport, says he was contacted 'out of the blue' by the committee at the Cavern, who have asked for as many members as possible to be at the unveiling ceremony. He said: "It'd be fantastic to hook up with the band members after all this time, and to have them share this accolade with me. The group, originally called Egg & The Scramblers, began as a 6-piece in 1961.
They used to practise at St Luke's Church hall in Southport. The band was paid just £6 for its Cavern performance After finding out there was another group on Merseyside called The Scramblers, the band changed its name to avoid confusion.
Trevor says he has always kept in touch with vocalist Dave Todd and has this week been able to track down former manager John Hardisty. Drummer Dave Lawson unfortunately passed away many years ago. If you have any information you think could help Trevor track down his former band members, please email email@example.com
